“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”
— Oscar Wilde
We live in a world where our attention is continuously courted—by media, advertising and algorithms.
In such a world, it becomes simple to avoid the work of developing our own mind and identity, and instead adopt what is already packaged: a trending way of life or a manufactured desire.
This is understandable. We are social beings; we seek belonging and inspiration through community.
But there is a distinction between conscious inspiration and unconscious influence.
The first is a deliberate choice that enriches you.
The second shapes your preferences and beliefs through exposure and repetition—until what you think and want feels like “you,” simply because it has become familiar.
I invite you to be selective about the information you let in.
What is shaping your mind lately?
What deserves to stay—and what needs to leave?
